Established in 1996, NPUI Bamenda was founded by the late Mr. YONG Francis in affiliation with Our Saviour Institute of Agriculture, Science and Technology (OSISATECH) Enugu, Nigeria. The institution was accredited by the Cameroon Ministry of Higher Education in 2002 as National Polytechnic Bambui, later changing its name to National Polytechnic Bamenda in 2010. In 2016, it transformed into a full-fledged University Institute, becoming National Polytechnic University Institute (NPUI) Bamenda.

NPUI is accredited to offer more than seventy six postgraduate (Master's) programmes, but for the time being we are offering the following; M.Ed in Educational administration and Planning, M.Sc. Public Health with specialization in health education, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Project Management, Strategic Management, Animal Production, Crop Production, & Agric-business. Other Postgraduate programmes (including PhD) will be introduced progressively
